  • 60th Birthday Concert, RNCM

This was a fantastic concert to celebrate the 60th birthday of SYO. Making this extra special we were able to welcome back Jennifer Pike, a huge international star virtuoso violinist, her roots are here and she was once the leader of the Stockport Youth Orchestra.

Jennifer played the amazingly difficult Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto to great ovation.

Prior to this the Orchestra started off with Ay Caray! by Carlos Agreda who won the inaugural composition composition promoted by SYO.

The second half of the concert was filled with a great performance of Elgar’s Variations on an Original Theme, Enigma (opus 36)

This Australian orchestra and choir are two of the best ensembles administered by The Arts Unit of the New South Wales Department of Education. The orchestra is currently comprised of 69 musicians and the choir of 42 singers. Students are generally of high school age (with an average age of 16) and represent a range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

The orchestra and choir will perform both separately and together on stage. Their repertoire includes works from Beethoven, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Whitacre, Whitwell and Riebl.

SYO will be joining our friends from Australia performing some of our current repertoir

“I have been in Stockport Youth Orchestra for around seven years and it’s been a wonderful way to further my musical abilities.”
